Sales line, or fact?
"Premium waapas mil jayega, matlab insurance free!"
The complaint ladder — every rung is free
Stage 1 — the insurer
Written complaint to the insurer's Grievance Redressal Officer
Email or letter, and keep the acknowledgement. Every insurer is required to have a GRO.
Stage 2 — Bima Bharosa
IRDAI's online grievance portal
bimabharosa.irdai.gov.in registers the complaint, routes it to the insurer, and tracks the response against deadlines.
Stage 3 — the Insurance Ombudsman
If the complaint is rejected, or 30 days pass without resolution
An independent forum under the Insurance Ombudsman Rules — no fee, no lawyer needed. File within a year of the insurer's rejection. Accept the award, and the insurer is bound by it.
Any time — consumer forum
The ordinary consumer-court route stays open
The Ombudsman path is simpler and free, but it is a choice, not a compulsion.
Quick check
